Honored to announce that we completed our Leatherback Turtle Nest Protection π’ project in Puerto Rico yesterday π΅π·
We set up ~50 numbered steel poles throughout the beach to help volunteers pinpoint the exact location of turtle nests. Leatherback Turtle mothers will start to lay their nests for the next 6 months or so; therefore, being able to quickly and easily identify the nests helps the protection/conservation efforts of organizations like @cheloniapr π’
As part of this project, we had the wonderful opportunity to work together with @cheloniapr - established in 1982, they are one of the leaders in Turtle Conservation across Puerto Rico & the Caribbean π΅π·
Special thanks to Environmental Leader Enrique Morales who led the organization/setup of the event π€ Thanks as always to all of the Ama subscribers who make projects like this possible - your donations funded this π₯
We look forward to continuing to help with Turtle Conservation efforts on the island & beyond!
Note: ~30 volunteers showed up to the beach at 6:30am on a Saturday to help with this event. That goes to show how much the people of Puerto Rico π΅π· care about the environment and is also a testament to the amazing community work that @cheloniapr has done over the years π
