Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - Is an Accurate 15th Century Game.. Here's Why..

Feb 03, 2025

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a highly anticipated upcoming sequel to Henry and Sir Hans Capon's story from Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The story takes place in the "turmoil of a civil war", where Henry will fight against Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund and his allies. Although it has come under some heated debate that the game is taking a turn with DEI and 'Wokeness', the game itself is actually highly accurate for a medieval game.

First let's talk about what the game is about.. 'Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is an action RPG, set amid the chaos of a civil war in 15th Century Bohemia. You are Henry of Skalitz, an ordinary man doing extraordinary things, caught in a gripping tale of revenge, betrayal and discovery as he embarks on an epic journey, โ€œfrom a humble blacksmithโ€™s forge to the court of Kings,โ€ as he searches for purpose in this beautiful but brutal medieval world. From bustling city streets to lush forests, this open-world Medieval Europe through an unforgettable adventure filled with action, thrill and wonder.'

So far, there have been a plethora of people who have tried out this game before launch, and most are absolutely loving it. The game itself has overwhelmingly positive reviews, stating that the game is everything the first one offered, yet somehow made exponentially better. The combat is fantastic and insanely smooth, the world itself is absolutely beautiful, and the story is as immersive as you could ever want. My favorite review I found so far, a player stated "๐‘๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ฅ๐ข, ๐‘๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ฅ๐ข, ๐๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐’๐ข๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข! - 9/10". So needless to say, I'm sold. However, a few comments stood out to me that made me want to dig more into the accuracy of the time period, and if this game actually was historically accurate.

The first negative comment I came across talked about homosexuality and how "gay people" weren't around in the medieval times, that's actually incorrect. Homosexuality was very popular during the 15th century in most European countries. During the early years of the Medieval period, homosexuality wasn't frowned upon at all, including many of the churches at the time. Most cultures didn't view it as something different, or a 'sin' until much later, or depending on where you lived during certain time periods. It wasn't until the 16th century when laws were created outlawing homosexuality, and was much more widespread. During the 15th century Florence, Italy's population of homosexuality was roughly around 80%. So it's safe to say that when it comes to being accurate, that's part of the social norm of that time period.

The second negative comments I came across, were a few people stating "Black people didn't exist in medieval Europe" and "Devs made it "inclusive" by adding races that wouldn't have been present." Actually that's not accurate at all, many races were present during the early, mid, and late medieval periods all over Europe. Many races could take on the roles of knights, saints, musicians, mercenaries, cardinals, and hold high nobility; Race wasn't a huge part of Europe, until about a century later. So it is accurate to have many different types of people with different cultural backgrounds in the game.

The developers have done an excellent job making this game super accurate, not just from the social perspective, they've done their research when it comes to what a 15th century Bohemian life would actually be like. From the urban environment, to the city life, and even the societal structures of the time, you can tell they have put the effort to make this immersive experience both fun and highly accurate. Even the streets themselves, from their vendors to the layout have been delved into immensely. It's no wonder this game in general is so highly anticipated.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be releasing tomorrow, February 4th, 2025. The game will be releasing on PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5.
