The NSW Government is proposing massive camping fee increases across National Parks, with some sites potentially jumping from $6 to $54 per night - a staggering 900% increase!
These proposed changes would affect 86% of campgrounds and could transform camping from an affordable outdoor activity into something resembling commercial accommodation.
A major concern is the proposal to maintain mandatory pre-booking for 86% of campsites, with only the most basic facilities remaining first-come, first-served. This system eliminates the spontaneity of camping, creates significant challenges for those traveling in areas with limited mobile reception, and fails to address the "ghost booking" problem it was meant to solve.
In this video, I break down the proposed changes, show specific examples of potential price hikes, explain why the proposed mandatory booking system fails in remote areas, and share recommendations from my official submission.
These are OUR parks - we shouldn't need a premium budget to enjoy them.
