Hi friends! As always, thanks for your patience between updates. They are, indeed, so named for a reason. So let's get into it!
I have been crazy busy since coming back from LA. I am nannying twice a week for some friends. Their son is the sweetest boy and makes my job pretty dang easy. This gig came at the perfect time as my podcasting work has significantly slowed down. I honestly don't wanna think about how my finances would have been without these two days a week.
The downside to this gig is it pretty much knocks out two workdays during the week for me. I barely get a walk with Hazel in before leaving, and by the time I get back, I have to get to work, so I skip my workout. But one has to prioritize for one's sanity.
Speaking of priorities, I've been curbing my fun spending to invest in agent meetings through One on One/Next Level studio. These have been very rewarding experiences. Nothing has come of them yet, as I have not been signed by an agent yet, but I believe these connections are more effective than cold applying/emailing, and I have learned a lot. In each of these private appointments, I perform a scene with a reader and sometimes chat with the agent(s) after. They've all been so lovely. I'd honestly be lucky to sign with any of them.
Last week, I had two Amazing Zooms. One was actually a class, not a performance, with an acting coach. The class was specifically geared toward auditioning for procedural television (think all the murder shows like NCIS, CSI, etc.). I loooooved this coach, and I learned a lot.
The other Zoom was private coaching with One on One's resident acting coach. This guy was also fantastic. I brought my Kate Beckett/Castle scene to work on since my feedback on that scene at the Atlanta showcase back in January was so mixed. It really goes to show how much an outside party can help. Everything he said was like, "Oh yeah, duh," but it took him to notice it. His notes were spot on, and I left the coaching feeling so good about the scene.
As the scene was fresh, I used it for my next agent meeting. This one was this past Tuesday with Dawn and George Landrum. I fell in love with them and their agency during their spiel and Q&A. They had great things to say about my scene, and their literally one note was minor. Funnily enough, everything they complimented me on was incorporated from that coaching. You can imagine how validating that felt.
Next up is a panel of 4 LA agents. This will be my third of these. So far, they've all been different agents. 3/4 of the agents listed for the panel are women, so that's very exciting. These panels are more intimidating, but that's just how it goes. The worst part is instead of a little chit-chat after your scene, you have to give your 60-second pitch of yourself. Just awful. But I'm hoping I come off better than I feel in the moment. I'm delightful and charming, right? ...right??
And with all of this going on, I'm still squeezing in friends, family, my boyfriend, and Black Cat stuff. Oh! Actually, not a single agent has laughed at my desire to play a Marvel character. So that's encouraging!
