I was out with some friends in Colorado Springs back in 2016 with the intention of grabbing some dinner and listening to some live music. That's when we stumbled upon Selasee & the Fafa Family.
Selasee travelled from Ghana to the US for the first time in 1998, performing in various spots around Minneapolis. After returning to Ghana he graduated from the University of Ghana Legon in 1999, and ended up returning to the US later the same year–– teaching African music and doing some volunteer work. In 2001 he migrated to the States and was signed to Running Dream in 2004. In 2006 he won the "Best World Fusion Song" award by the The Independent Music Awards.
Moments into the first song we were on our feet dancing. It was reggae and worldly–– like hearing the heart beat of West Africa. Rain began to pour about 30 minutes into their set and it was like they didn't even notice. The music continued for another couple of hours. I haven't danced like that since.
Rain stopping Selasee and his band? Not a chance.
