Hey! I'm Alex B!

Hey! I'm Alex B!

May 30, 2024

Hey there! I'm Alex B. Let me give you a lil background info about me. I'm an abstract artist with denims, doodles and collages. My past experience is with makeup artistry, fashion reselling and upcycling and now I'm a painter and microfiction writer + blogger. Raised in St. Louis and Ferguson, MO. Retired Air Force vet, wife, mama to my two lil homegirls and currently residing in Redford, MI, right outside of Detroit.

What made me decide to become an artist? Well I like to think that being an artist was appointed to me and I'm a messenger. It's in my art that I believe there are messages that are to be delivered to the person that needs it the most - whatever it may be.

No matter where I live or what I do, I always find my way back to some form of artistry.

Why did I choose the styles and mediums? I wanted to use denim for several reasons: 1) I pivoted into my art business using denim as I painted on jeans as an upcycler, 2) to support second hand fashion and sustainability and 3) it's durable and easy to get my hands on it. Making the doodles happened in a slightly unusual way. On those early morning wake ups due to my insomnia, I decided to grab my supplies and start to draw. It quickly became a therapeutic routine and I enjoyed the art I was making. As for the collages, I enjoy paper crafts and stationery 😁. I like overlapping textures and designs and thought this was fitting to merge all three concepts.

When I'm not painting, I'm working on my blogs and microfictions. With each creative business I've had, I always had a blog page. I spent years journaling so writing blogs just feels natural to me.

What are my microfictions about? My microfictions are used in conjunction to my portraits. The portraits and microfics on their own are cool, but together they tell a great story. My art is centered around transparency and authenticity and the microfics are written in a journal style with an internal dialogue. They are not exactly my personal thoughts, but the thoughts and feelings of others who may have this experience.

I'll be sharing lots of good stuff such as WIPs, new blogs, art spotlights (because I like to highlight the cool artists out there), art shows, my new art, merch and anything else art related.

Please feel free to connect with me on socials too!

Peace,

Alex B
