One of the questions I get asked all the time by Students and Parents is what's the best type of kit to practice...QUIETLY...! If you're in need of a low volume solution to practicing, heres a Volume Test on my Practice Kit. Regular heads & cymbals Vs Remo Silentstroke Heads & Zildjian L80s. All recording levels were set the same for both. Very simple set-up in my home studio - Gretsch Catalina practice kit, 16" BD, 8,10,13 toms, 12" Snare ( 14" Ludwig 400 on the regular kit sound sample) AKG & Shure mics. I only use this kit for teaching and YouTube videos. The 'feel' on both cymbals AND drum heads is quite natural - maybe both a little more 'bouncy' as the cymbals are obviously lighter and heads slightly more 'springy'...but not enough to cramp your style during your practice time..!
Hope this helps if you're considering the Low Volume Alternatives when practicing. For me both work really well so highly recommended! Channel Members feel free to get in touch if you require any further info or help.
BTW the groove is from the opening verse in 'White Room' the classic track by Cream.
