"Hello, my name is Kaisa Kamaria." The five-year-old exclaimed enthusiastically.

The lady's face brightened. Her expression matched Kamaria's. Her lips parted in a smile as she spoke. "My name is Miss Kenya, and I'm your instructor."

Miranda was standing right next to her daughter. Her excitement was visible on her face. She couldn't believe it had already been five years. It wasn't simple for her to get her girl. They decided on adoption after trying for years after their marriage with no success.

It was not an easy decision to make for both of them. Miranda had always wanted to experience this aspect of womanhood. She felt enraged at the cosmos for denying her that chance. Her spouse had to encourage her to consent to it after much persuasion.

Her entire viewpoint shifted the day she held baby Kamaria in her arms. They'd been told she'd been abandoned as a child. Her mother abandoned her a few weeks after she was born. Her heart melted the moment she felt the little girl cuddle in her arms.

She stared down at the grown-up tiny woman who was now clutching her hands. She would give her everything. Her beady dark eyes glowed brightly in hers.

"Mum will be here to pick you up after school." Miranda told her daughter.

"OK, mama." The young girl enthusiastically consented.

Kamaria, contrary to Miranda's expectations, seemed to be fine with being left behind at school. All of her thoughts had been playing with words she'd tell her daughter if she cried after her.

‘What if she developed a fear of being alone with strangers? ‘

Maybe I think too much about it. Or perhaps Kamaria had grown up and no longer needed her mother.

No, hold on.

This is what scared her. Kamaria is maturing into an independent individual who no longer requires her to be around all the time.

No.

Kamaria was her child. She will always remain and will always require her mother's presence. Nothing, not even aging of time, was going to change that.

Stop.

Miranda, stop overthinking things. She is five years old and is starting kindergarten. She's not going anywhere anytime soon. You've got plenty of time before you start thinking about it.

"You're welcome to leave her with me, Mrs. Chu." Miss Kenya's voice screamed. "I'll make sure she has a good night's sleep."

Miranda knelt and cupped Kamaria's small face in her palms. She placed her lips to her brow for what seemed like an eternity. Finally, she let go of the final smile she gave her. She stood up and turned to face the teacher. Her brow furrowed. She opened her mouth to say something.

Her words sounded more authoritative. "Make certain that you follow all of the guidelines I provided. Whatever happens to my daughter..." Miss Kenya cut her off before she could continue finish.

"I'm sure you chose us since you know we're one of the best around here, Mrs. Chu."

Miranda sighed and started on her way, leaving Kamaria and the teacher to settle into their class.
