Wallpaper Wednesday - 1/22/25 - ROLEX 24 Bound

Jan 22, 2025

I don’t have much time to say anything about these. This post has been scheduled to go live at 12pm MST. By then, I’ll be in the air on my way to the 2025 Rolex 24h at Daytona! I’m super excited and glad to be back taking race photos again after 2 months off since HSR.

In exchange for not having many thoughts here, I’ve given y’all 7 photos for this week. Each one was taken last year at Rolex. If you’re going to be at the race this week, give me a shout and try to find me! I’ve got some goodies for you if you do

This one is of the Mustang #65 screaming into the braking zone at the International Horseshoe. I love long shutter drag shots like this, especially at night. This year, I'm not sure if this shot will be possible, or at least if it will be as good. The Mustangs lit up the pony on the side of the car for Petit Le Mans last fall, and they've carried it over to Rolex, which is going to make night photos awesome in some spots and really hard in others, but I'm all for the challenge.

Photo 2 is of one of my favorite MPC liveries. Sadly, the Rearden team is not going to be at Rolex this year, but their spirit lives on through the trading cards I'm giving away. This photo is for day 2 of the event. Find me, and I'll give you a copy! (hint, I'll be sharing my location on my IG story periodically)

This angle will always be in my top 3 at Daytona. The shot above was taken during a restart on Saturday of the main race, roughly at 3PM if my memory serves me. My goal is to be here around sunset this year and catch the driver's faces lit up by the setting sun.

This is one of my top 5 shots of the whole year (at least at the moment). Getting the Iron Dames car perfectly centered within the Ferris wheel, with amazing pre-golden hour light. Believe it or not, this shot only has a slight shadow tweak on it. This is essentially how it looked straight out of the camera.

Another Ferris wheel shot, this time with the car going towards the braking zone. Given that the brakes on this BMW aren't bright orange, I believe this was taken during one of the several safety cars of the night. This year, I'm afraid we'll have even more as the temps are forecast for the mid 40s, and IMSA doesn't allow tire warmers.

This shot was one of my final shots before I turned in for the night. I set up my stool in the walking path of the Turn 4 tunnel on my way out to the car and spent about 5 minutes capturing cars out of NASCAR 4. I'm going to have to make a conscious effort to get this shot this year, because this year we have an infield parking pass, so I'm going to be sleeping in the track this year instead of out in Lot 4.

A classic rivalry, Ford vs Chevy. This was about halfway down the grandstands during my night stint up there. The grandstands are one of the things I'm most looking forward to getting back to this year, given they were closed for the entire duration of HSR.

I hope you like the writeup. If you have one of these as your wallpaper and you show me at Daytona I'll be absolutely floored.
