For the second year in a row, the Highland League title winners will be decided on the final day of the season, this time with three teams still in with a shout, both of being declared champions and of winning promotion to the SPFL.
Last year's winners Brechin City have seen their lead at the top of the table gradually whittled away in recent weeks, not from poor form of their own but by Buckie Thistle having successfuly negotiated a fixture backlog caused both some pitch issues at their Victoria Park home and a Scottish Cup run that saw them beaten by current holders Celtic.
Faced with back-to-back games against bottom club Strathspey Thistle this week, Buckie defeated their fellow Jags by a combined total of 12 goals in 48 hours. Sandwiched in between, Brechin took three points from their trip to Keith but with only a single strike to show for their efforts.
That leaves both teams tied on 78 points but with Buckie, crucially, now two goals better off and with a slightly more favourable looking final fixture, on paper at least, as they host mid-table Keith while Brechin travel to face League Cup winners Brora Rangers.
Waiting in the wings are Fraserburgh, three points behind and requiring a victory over Strathspey and defeats for the duo above them.
For the eventual winners, a two-legged play-off against Lowland League winners East Kilbride awaits. The victors in that meet the bottom club in SPFL League Two, again over two legs.
I've been to around a third of the current Highland League grounds over the past few years and enjoyed the differing nature of each and some of the beautiful backdrops that frame them, Mackessack Park in Rothes being a favourite.
There is a real sense at many of the clubs being at the heart of their local community and excellent coverage in the Press & Journal newspaper.
Admission prices haven't strayed above £10 and when the season begins again, the late summer months are a great time to visit.
