Hi! I’m Lee, a film director, commercial storyboard artist, and Asian American domestic adoptee and former foster youth.

I’m currently developing a documentary feature titled "Adoptee Narratives Documentary" (working title). This project delves into the complex and often controversial representation of adoption, adoptees, and orphans in popular media throughout history.

Through interviews with adoptee filmmakers, scholars, psychologists, and creatives, along with deep dive analysis of famous adoption narratives in popular media - from blockbuster films to plays, cartoons, the Bible, and beyond - I aim to explore how adoption tropes have been developed and perpetuated throughout history and how these tropes have shaped adoptee identity and community across the world today.

I want to highlight the unique perspectives and insights that adoptees bring to stories about their own experiences, in contrast to those told by outsiders.

I hope this project raises awareness about the risks of community outsiders dominating narratives they may not fully understand.

Misrepresentation of adoption stories and experiences can have real-world consequences for adoptees, and I aim to illuminate how these portrayals impact adoptee experiences, policies, and societal / cultural expectations.
