Starting Work Monday—Still Without Housing

Oct 31, 2025

imageI'm writing this from a place of both hope and urgent need. Monday, I start a new job—the breakthrough I've been working toward. But as I write this, I'm still without stable housing.

Where I Am Right Now:

I don't have keys to a place. I don't have an address where I can receive mail or hang work clothes for Monday morning. While I'm preparing to start employment, I'm coordinating with shelters and case managers, trying to maintain the stability that work requires when your reality is still uncertain.

The SHIP program through Metro Inclusive Health is processing my application for security deposit and rental assistance. My case team is working to finalize everything, and we're hoping for approval by Monday—or within the first few days of the week at the latest.

Why I'm Reaching Out:

I've hesitated to ask directly, but I'm learning that sometimes honesty requires vulnerability. If you're reading this and able to help—whether through financial support for immediate needs, connections to housing resources, or sharing this with your network—I would be genuinely grateful.

I'm not asking for pity. I'm asking for partnership across this final stretch between homelessness and housing stability.

What SHIP Covers (And Why the Timing Matters):

The State Housing Initiatives Partnership program provides:

  • Security deposits landlords require upfront

  • Utility connection deposits

  • Up to 12 months of rental subsidy for very low-income individuals

These cover the exact barriers standing between me and housing. The application is in process. Approval is expected this week.

How You Can Help:

If you're able to provide support while SHIP processes—whether $20 or $200—it goes directly toward immediate needs: keeping work clothes clean, transportation to the job, the essentials that make showing up possible when you're starting from zero.

👉 Ways to support:

  • PayPal: paypal.me/adontai

  • Venmo: @adontaimason

  • Buy Me a Coffee: www.buymeacoffee.com/adontaimason

If financial support isn't possible, sharing this post could connect me with someone who knows of resources or opportunities I haven't found yet.

The Reality:

I start work Monday. SHIP approval should come through this week. I'm closer to stable housing than I've ever been. But right now, I need help bridging these final days—to show up Monday prepared, with the dignity that comes from meeting basic needs.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for considering. Thank you for being part of what makes this possible.
