At The Table of Fate

At The Table of Fate

I drift through the endless void,

A flight powered by opioid.

Addled thoughts spin myths of their own,

A bit of flesh hides the brittle bone.

The hollow veins are cold and dry.

The ashen blood does not supply

Food and heat to the stilled heart.

The soft drumbeats in silence depart.

You, who stares with sightless eyes,

You, who wait for my goodbyes,

Do you relish me on your plate?

Names you have many, but I choose Fate.

Saute me with a tinge of pain

And watch the garnet hue I gain.

Add a pinch of hope with a dash of tears,

Set me aside to marinate for years.

Then come and gorge on my gristly meat,

I’m all you get, and I’m all you can eat.

Paint your crooked pearls sharp and red,

Bury the living and count the dead.
