MostlyTenkara videos require hours upon hours of time spent shooting and editing, as well as expensive camera & audio equipment. YouTube ad revenue for a tiny channel like mine is insignificant next to the expenses (mostly as time input). Crafting niche tenkara fly fishing videos is a money-losing equation any way you slice it. At times, it is hard to justify the time spent. So why do I do it??
It is a labor of love. I love serving this unique fly fishing community. I've been a filmmaker since I was 16. I love the puzzle-solving of putting a video together. I love sharing knowledge and experience that might empower and encourage others to get out there and enjoy our natural world. And I love sharing my obsessive excitement with people who suffer the same fly fishing addiction!
One of the superpowers of the internet is its ability to connect geographically disparate niche enthusiasts with one another. Making these videos connects me with people I've never met, who might be tuning in from the other side of the world--so cool!
