I'm Dani. I’m native Oregonian; built a homestead in New Orleans, Louisiana 2016-2021; moved across the border to Mexico for traveling and house-sitting 2021-2022. We’ve been searching for our next homestead via an extended period of traveling and house-sitting. Now we're moving across the sea to rural Japan, in 2023.
Why have we started this community support page?
Each contribution will help support my husband and myself financially, so we can pursue our (many) endeavors: photography, traveling, finding our new home, rebuilding our homestead and businesses in a new country, starting our family, and creating the life we want.
The work I've created for my clients has been a passion for going on 1.5 decades. I love all of my clients, and many of them become friends. But, at the end of the day, my photography is for them. Today, I find myself looking back at my pre-professional artwork, and wanting to create once again, for me.
In years past, while I was teaching myself photography, I would spend hours alone with my camera, creating my personal artwork, while learning new techniques, and pushing my boundaries as a growing artist.
So I've started this page to inspire myself to create brand new creative imagery, just for fun. I'll explore new photography themes, teach myself new techniques, and to share the resulting artwork and skills with you. Heck, I have a whole new country (or two countries!) to explore from the perspective of an appreciative outsider, and thanks to photography, can bring you along with me! I even have some old projects I would love to complete.
What benefits do subscribers receive?
I'm still working out the tiers, but I intend to make your contribution valuable. Here are some perks I'm considering, and I'm more than happy to hear your thoughts! Feel free to help me build these tiers in a way that would be most beneficial to you:
For photography enthusiasts:
• Pre-release or discounts for photography coffee-table books;
• Pre-release or discounts for photography prints or framed prints;
• See even more photos from our travels than shared on my photo blog!
For photographers:
• Look behind-the-scenes at creative photography sessions;
• Check out my lighting diagrams, gear, and settings;
• One-on-one mentoring sessions for topics of your choice!
I would prioritize income from supporters specifically for photography:
• Publishing photography coffee-table books with high-quality prints;
• Re-establishing my business in Mexico or Japan;
• Entry fees for photography competitions;
• Possibly upgrading or expanding lighting gear, lenses, or accessories;
• Possibly purchasing a mirrorless camera or a film camera.
Here's a little more of my history:
Photography found me in 2007, while I was studying graphic design in college. In the years since then, I’ve received a small handful of photography awards, have shown my pieces in a number of art galleries, and found myself published in the Photographer’s Forum’s annual ‘Best of College Photography’ for two years.
Since starting my business in 2009, I’ve had the pleasure of working with hundreds of wonderful individuals, couples, and families, for weddings, engagements, maternity portraits, family portraits, high school senior portraits, event coverage, and professional headshots. I also work with small businesses to create images for their online and printed materials; my background in graphic design helps me to understand and anticipate their marketing needs. I love all of my clients and take pride knowing that I give them the attention they deserve. My business philosophy is now, and always has been, quality over quantity.
