I'm Grant, and I love watching the sky. When I was a kid, some of my favorite memories are sitting at my window in Pennsylvania and counting the seconds between a flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder, or rifling through the newspaper for the weather section to see if it was going to snow that day.
These days, my weather hobby is a touch more advanced, and involves weather stations, computers, and lines of code. I own and operate CamWX.com, a weather information service serving my local neighborhood of Camarillo.
About CamWX
This station was originaly born in the San Fernando Valley near the 101, 170, and 134 interchange as the Studio City Weather Center in the early 2010's. The station moved to Simi Valley and became known as the Simi Valley Weather Center in 2014. Now, after settling in Camarillo in 2017, CamWX was founded with the goal of bringing high-quality weather information to the community of Camarillo and the surrounding Ventura county area.
Where is the station located?
The station is located in Camarillo Heights near the intersection of Amber Drive and Tanglewood St.
What Powers it?
The station is powered by a Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus weather station. The data is collected every 2.5 seconds and the site is updated every 10 seconds. The station's data is collected using Weather Display software. At the same time, our realtime data is shared with the National Weather Service, the UK Met Office, Wunderground, AWEKAS, Windy.com, Weathercloud, and PWSweather. The station is comprised of an anemometer, a rain gauge, a thermo-hydro sensor, a barometric pressure sensor, a solar energy sensor, and an ultra-voilet sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible.
In addition to real-time data provided by the on-site weather station, CamWX gathers forecast data from the National Weather Service, with a specific focus on the Camarillo area. NWS Hazard products are gathered from the National Weather Service API data feeds and updated here on CamWX.com every 60 seconds. At the same time, we collect these hazard bulletins from the NOAA Weather Wire feed and retransmit them in real time on our Facebook and Twitter feeds.
I am also a trained SKYWARN weather spotter, contributing to the National Weather Service's boots-on-the-ground awareness in the area.
