[Anouncement] NordVPN 6.0 for Linux with CLI changes

Oct 15, 2026

Hi everyone,

NordVPN announced its new Release 6.0 for Linux (planned for October 21st) with significant changes to the CLI. This means the JNordVPN Manager needs to be updated to support the new version.

Remark: NordVPN Version 5.x nordvpn settings should be saved before update. Version 6.0 changes how settings are stored, and they're not backward compatible - if you downgrade, your existing configuration won't be retained.

Final tests are required before the new JNordVPN Manager version 2026.10 can be released - this means it will be available with a delay after NordVPN released its new version 6.0.

The official anouncement from NordVPN can be found here.

What's changing in NordVPN:

  • nordvpn set technology is removed and replaced by nordvpn set protocol.

  • nordvpn set obfuscate is removed. Obfuscation is now handled by NordWhisper - switch to the NordWhisper protocol, then select the “Obfuscated servers” group and connect. No separate toggle is needed.

  • The dedicated P2P server group is gone. P2P traffic works on standard servers, so instead of nordvpn connect P2P, just connect to any standard location. The same applies to P2P-specific auto-connect configs.

  • nordvpn set virtual-location is removed - no replacement needed. Virtual servers are no longer separated from other servers.

  • Auto-connect to individual named servers is no longer supported. Use a country or city instead.

  • nordvpn whitelist becomes nordvpn allowlist - same functionality, one consistent name.

  • nordvpn set threatprotectionlite (plus the tplite and cybersec aliases) becomes nordvpn set protection enabled.
