Convert a fraction to a %

  • MULTIPLY the fraction by 100/1. Look for opportunities to cancel numerators and denominators.

  • to find 50% of a number make it half ( divided by 2)

  • to find 25% of a number make it half ( divided by 2) and again half

    OR divided by 4

  • To find 10% of a given amount divide it by 10.

  • To find 5% of the given amount, you will get by dividing what 10% is by 2.

  • 1% is easily found by dividing what 10% is by 10

For quick reference

1 /2 = 50%

1/4 = 25 %

1/8 = 12.5 %

1/16 = 6.25 %

Note

1/20 = 5%

1/10 = 10%

3/20 = 15%

1/5 = 20%

1/4 = 25%

1/2 =50%

1 = 100%

Question 1 Rob scores 68 out of 80 in a maths exam. What is her score expressed as a % ?

Answer 1: 68%

Answer 2: 68.8%

Answer 3: 75%

Answer 4: 85%

Answer 5: 94%

Answer 4 : 85 %

Question 2 Marc has scored 34 out of his last 40 attempted penalty kicks. What % of his spot kicks did he fail to score ?

Answer 1: 6%

Answer 2: 34%

Answer 3: 20%

Answer 4: 16%

Answer 5: 15%

Note : Read the question What % of his spot kicks did he fail to score ?

Pass % = (34/40) * 100 = 85

Fail % = 100 -85 = 15

Question 3 Emma earns £60,000 pa. She has just been told that she will be getting a 3% pay rise next year. What will her new salary be ?

Answer 1: £65,003

Answer 2: £63,003

Answer 3: £60,003

Answer 4: £63,000

Answer 5: £61,800

Her Salary £ 60 000 .

pay rise =(3/100) * 60 000=1800

New salary would be 60 000 + 1800 = £61 ,800

Question 4 A house costing £380,000 has been reduced in sale price by 35%. How much will it now cost ?
