About Phil Speed
My career started in the late 1960's after serving our country in the military. The GI Bill helped pay for an education that taught me the skills necessary for repairing and/or programming mainframe computers that were popular in the industry at the time.
I like to challenge myself by building, making and repairing things that require me to learn new skills. Early on in life I made a lot of the furniture in our home and once rebuilt our car engine.
In the late 70's I designed and built a personal computer from scratch in our garage, wire wrapping hundreds of connections. Along with the PC, I designed a firmware BIOS to handle input, output and magnetic tape storage.
In the late ’70s, my wife and I decided to take a different path. We started a two person pickup and deliver repair business. She drove over 100 miles a day picking up work for us, while I tackled repairs in a shop building we built together next to our home. We kept this work going until the world shifted from repairing things to replacing them.
