About Liz W
Employment and financial education for people with disabilities
Hey, my name is Liz, and I'm on a mission to help people with a disability or chronic illness build financial freedom.
Whilst there is a lot of help to build financial freedom from a place of good health and wellness, I have found a significant lack of information specifically tailored for helping people with disabilities or long-term health conditions. These people face unique challenges due to a statistically lower likelihood of employment, fewer working hours, and lower earnings.
Research shows that employment offers not just income, but also meaning, purpose, and social connection. This in turn reduces social isolation and improves mental health. However, the statistics show that there is a significant gap between people with disabilities who want to work, compared to a significantly less number who are actually working/employed. Therefore, I started this project to develop strategies and tools to help people with disabilities achieve financial freedom and independence despite these additional challenges. My vision to help both organisations and employees with disabilities to find new ways of working that improves employment sustainability.
I raise awareness of how disability impacts individual employment and associated earning/financial outcomes. I post on LinkedIn and speak at seminars and conferences. I also am involved in relevant research efforts.
I offer pro bono coaching to people with ME (chronic fatigue syndrome) or Long Covid to help them navigate employment or career changes due to these diseases.
Buying a coffee supports me to continue doing this work.
