About Ash Hart
local AI apps, open-source tools and free MLX models
I'm Ash, an independent developer building AI tools for the hardware you already own, across Apple Silicon and NVIDIA systems.
Here is my Amazon wishlist if you are feeling extra generous!
I build practical apps, open-source tools, model conversions and experimental runtimes focused on making local AI more useful, accessible and capable.
MCDMA is my latest project, bringing hardware RDMA between a Mac Studio and an NVIDIA Spark, with measured low-microsecond READ and WRITE completion times and separate correctness tests passing between buffers accessed by Metal and CUDA kernels.
I've written about why I built it and what comes next, including inference-engine integration and experiments with KV-cache handoffs, speculative decoding and splitting larger models across my 256 GB Studio and two Sparks.
SparkPilot is my app for using a DGX Spark from your iPhone, iPad or Mac, with guided setup, model controls and chat. It's available through TestFlight, and I'm continuing to develop it as a free app with no ads.
Through Vontra, I publish free MLX model conversions on Hugging Face, along with setup notes, testing results and known limitations.
I'm also continually running experiments across Apple Silicon and NVIDIA hardware, testing new approaches to model inference, distributed AI, memory usage, networking, speculative decoding and ways of making local models faster and more capable.
Where your support goes
If you buy me a coffee, all funds go directly back into this work.
That means more:
experiments and research
hardware for testing
compute and storage
model conversions
app and runtime development
open-source tools
testing, benchmarking and documentation
The goal is simple: support goes back into building and experimenting, and the results become more free models, open-source software, research and useful tools for the community.
Support is completely optional. My public models and open-source work remain free, and a contribution doesn't buy a guaranteed release, feature or priority support.
You can explore SparkPilot at sparkpilot.dev, find my models at huggingface.co/Vontra, and browse my open-source work at github.com/ashhart.
Thanks for supporting independent local AI development.
