Full Armor of God Series - Day 1 of 10
Strength in the Lord: A Reflection on Ephesians 6:10 (AMP)
Introduction
For the next 10 days we will discuss “The Full Armor of God” as written in Ephesians 6:10-20 (AMP). We will take this very powerful and relevant passage of scripture verse by verse daily. If you’re reading this, I ask you to join me in prayer and meditation each day on each verse.
Today we begin with Ephesians 6:10 (AMP) which sets the foundation for the Armor of God by calling believers to draw their strength from the Lord. It highlights the necessity of relying on God’s power, not our own, to face the spiritual battles of life. This scripture reminds Christians that we are not left to fight alone. Instead, we are fully empowered by God’s might, which is both limitless and effective. For today’s believers, it is a call to remain steadfast, drawing continually from the unlimited and available well of God’s strength to overcome the challenges we encounter daily.
Now Let’s Eat Some Meat!
Ephesians 6:10 (AMP): “In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might.”
The Context of Ephesians 6:10
Paul wrote the letter to the Ephesians to encourage and equip the Church for faithful living in Christ. In Chapter 6, he transitions to discussing spiritual warfare, emphasizing the importance of God’s power in standing against the schemes of the enemy. Verse 10 serves as the starting point for this instruction, establishing the need to rely fully on God’s strength.
For the original audience, as most are, this scripture was both a comfort and a challenge. Living in a world full of opposition, they were reminded that their source of power was not human but divine. For today’s Christians, this truth remains crucial. We face not only physical difficulties but also spiritual battles that require the strength and might of God to overcome. Let me add that those physical difficulties are spiritual in origin, I’ll say it again, “those physical difficulties are spiritual in origin!” Selah!
Relevance to Today’s Believers
Ephesians 6:10 speaks directly to believers navigating the complexities and trials of modern life. It acknowledges that human strength alone is insufficient to confront the challenges of spiritual warfare. Instead, it encourages Christians to rely on God’s strength, which is both infinite and unfailing. And also readily available to us!
For today’s Church, this scripture is a reminder to remain connected to God through prayer, worship, and His Word. It challenges us to relinquish self-reliance and instead depend on His might. This verse also assures believers that God’s power is definitely available to us, equipping us to stand firm in faith and victory.
Supporting Scriptures
Isaiah 40:29 (AMP) “He gives strength to the weary, and to him who has no might He increases power.” This scripture affirms God’s provision of strength for those of us who rely on Him.
Philippians 4:13 (AMP): “I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace].” Paul’s words align with the call to draw strength from the Lord.
Psalm 18:32 (AMP): “The God who encircles me with strength and makes my way blameless?” David’s praise reflects God’s empowering presence in the lives of His people.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (AMP): “But He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for My power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.’ Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may completely enfold me and may dwell in me.” God’s strength is revealed and perfected in human weakness.
Joshua 1:9 (AMP): “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” This scripture emphasizes the connection between strength and God’s empowering presence.
