Authority of The Believer - Access To God Through Prayer
No Introduction necessary, Now Let’s Eat Some Meat!
Access to God through prayer is one of the greatest privileges that believers in Christ have. Through prayer, we can communicate with God, pour out our hearts to Him, and ask for His help, guidance, and provision. In the Bible, we see many examples of people who prayed to God for various reasons and received miraculous answers to their prayers. Take a moment and think on this, you have the right, the authority, the immense privilege to reach out to the Creator of The Universe and included in this amazing right, is that He actually hears YOU and responds!!! Hebrews 4:16 (AMP) says “Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].” Now, God said it, I believe it, that settles it! Selah! (Take a moment and think on this)
One such example is Hannah, a barren woman who prayed fervently to God for a child. In 1 Samuel 1:10-11 (AMPC) , we read that Hannah "wept bitterly" and "made a vow,” it reads, “And [Hannah] was in distress of soul, praying to the Lord and weeping bitterly. She vowed, saying, O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your handmaid and [earnestly] remember, and not forget Your handmaid but will give me a son, I will give him to the Lord all his life; no razor shall touch his head.” God heard Hannah's prayer and granted her request. She gave birth to a son, Samuel, who became a great prophet in Israel. In verse 20 “Hannah became pregnant and in due time bore a son and named him Samuel [heard of God], Because, she said, I have asked him of the Lord.”
Another example is King Hezekiah, who prayed to God for healing when he was gravely ill. In 2 Kings 20:2-5 (AMPC), it reads prayed as such “Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying, I beseech You, O Lord, [earnestly] remember now how I have walked before You in faithfulness and truth and with a whole heart [entirely devoted to You] and have done what is good in Your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: Turn back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of My people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your [forefather]: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord." and in verse 6 God heard Hezekiah's prayer and granted him an additional 15 years of life. Saying “I will add to your life fifteen years and deliver you and this city [Jerusalem] out of the hand of the king of Assyria”
Yet another example is the apostle Paul, who prayed to God for relief from a physical affliction. In 2 Corinthians 12:7-8 (AMPC), Paul writes that he had a "thorn in his flesh" and prayed three times for God to take it away. “And to keep me from being puffed up and too much elated by the exceeding greatness (preeminence) of these revelations, there was given me a thorn (a splinter) in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to rack and buffet and harass me, to keep me from being excessively exalted. Three times I called upon the Lord and besought [Him] about this and begged that it might depart from me;”
God's response in verse 9 was, "But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My Strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness."
Another thing to consider in the words of Jesus spoken in John 10:10 (AMP), and I quote “I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” That fullness, abundance, and overflowing is largely because we have direct access to the Father.
These biblical examples show us that prayer is a powerful tool for communicating with God and receiving His help and guidance. Through prayer, we can bring our requests before God and trust that He will answer them according to His will.
In our own lives, we can look to these examples and be encouraged to pray with faith and persistence. We can bring our needs, wants, and concerns before God, knowing that He hears us and cares for us. We can trust that He will answer our prayers in His own time and way, and that His answers are always for our ultimate good and His glory.
There are also many modern-day examples of people who have experienced miraculous results through prayer. One such example is the story of John Smith, a 14-year-old boy who fell through the ice and was submerged in freezing water for 15 minutes. After being rescued and rushed to the hospital, John had no pulse for 45 minutes and was declared dead. However, his mother Joyce refused to accept this and began praying for God to bring her son back to life. Miraculously, John's heart started beating again and he made a full recovery.
Another example is the story of Joni Eareckson Tada, who became paralyzed from the neck down after a diving accident. Through prayer and faith, Joni has been able to overcome numerous physical and emotional challenges and has become a powerful advocate for people with disabilities around the world.
These modern-day examples remind us that prayer is not just a historical practice, but a living and active way to connect with God and experience His power and love in our lives. Through prayer, we can experience the same miraculous results as those in the Bible and be a witness to God's grace and mercy in our world today.
Access to God through prayer is one of the most profound and empowering privileges granted to believers in and through Christ. It is through prayer that we bridge the gap between the human and the divine, directly communicating with the Creator of the universe. This access is not only a sacred right but also a powerful tool for transformation, guidance, and provision. The article highlights that the authority to approach God through prayer is grounded in the assurance that He hears and responds to our petitions, a truth affirmed in Hebrews 4:16, which “invites believers to approach the throne of grace with confidence.”
The biblical examples of Hannah, King Hezekiah, and the apostle Paul illustrate that prayer is both personal and powerful, capable of bringing about divine intervention in seemingly impossible situations. Whether it’s Hannah’s heartfelt plea for a child, Hezekiah’s desperate prayer for healing, or Paul’s request for relief from affliction, these stories demonstrate that God listens attentively to His children and responds according to His perfect will. These examples remind us that prayer is not just about asking for things but about aligning our hearts with God’s purposes, trusting that His answers—whether they come as a miraculous healing or as sustaining grace—are always for our ultimate good and His glory.
The article also underscores that this access to God is not limited to the pages of Scripture; it is a living reality that continues to be experienced by believers today. The modern-day testimonies of individuals like John Smith, who was miraculously revived after being declared dead, and Joni Eareckson Tada, who has triumphed over immense challenges through faith and prayer, serve as powerful reminders of God’s active presence in our lives. These stories reveal that prayer is not merely a religious ritual but a dynamic encounter with God that can bring about profound change, healing, and hope.
In conclusion, the authority of the believer to access God through prayer is an incredible gift that should never be taken for granted. It is an invitation to experience the fullness of God’s love, wisdom, and power in our lives. By embracing this privilege with faith and persistence, we can confidently bring our needs and desires before God, knowing that He hears us and will respond in His perfect timing and way. Whether we are facing personal challenges, seeking guidance, or interceding for others, prayer is the means by which we tap into the boundless resources of heaven. As believers, we are called to pray boldly, trusting that our prayers are not only heard but are also instrumental in fulfilling God’s purposes on earth.
The challenge for each of us is to fully grasp the significance of this access and to make prayer an integral part of our daily lives. In doing so, we align ourselves with God’s will, experience His peace, and become vessels through which His power is manifested in the world. The authority to approach God in prayer is a sacred trust, a privilege that carries with it the promise of His presence, provision, and protection. Let us, therefore, approach the throne of grace with confidence, knowing that our prayers are powerful and effective, and that through them, we can experience the fullness of life that Jesus came to give us—life in abundance, overflowing with His grace and love.
