The Scrum, The Straps, and The New Start: Pre-season Shenanigans at Oundle RFC

It’s been a few weeks since my last blog post, and I’m still unsure about the ideal posting frequency. While I question if these posts genuinely boost Touchline Performance's appeal for potential PT clients or treatments, I initially started writing them as a cathartic way to offload about our activities. Given the effort and time involved, I’m still weighing whether it's time well spent versus, say, more advertising. Though, honestly, with a steady client base now, I've come a long way since beginning my journey into Sports Therapy proper.

As Oundle RFC’s pre-season is now in full swing, Tyler and I are fully focused on training. Tyler is honing his fitness and skills, while I’m getting up to speed with strapping and taping, ready to look after the Women’s Team this season. This next session at Oundle marks the official start of my season, where I’ll concentrate on strapping ankles, shoulders, and arms—some of the most common injury points for rugby players. I’ll also be observing and gathering player information to help assess injuries, essentially noting any niggles players are carrying into games. Being in the Women’s team WhatsApp group, I can tell you it’s never quiet – and I don’t think I’m giving anything away by saying they’re absolutely crushing a pre-season fitness competition! I’m truly impressed by the team’s togetherness, especially with new players joining. It’s shaping up to be an exciting season.

I’m hoping to get some Oundle gear so I don’t look like Mr. Generic Physio on match days. We’ll see! Again, I’m excited about the prospect of supporting Oundle in this way, this year and beyond.

It’s been a couple of bonkers weeks, leaving me flitting between excitement and nervousness about what this season will bring, not just for me, but for Tyler, as he’ll be playing his first full season with the Men’s senior squad this year. In effect, we both need the game time, so that’s also something to look forward to.

Speaking of Tyler, he’s just taken up a full-time role as a PT with a well-known, high-end gym chain. This means his work with Touchline will take a backseat for a while, but don’t worry—his availability will be limited, but he’ll still be able to see his clients after being released by his new company to do so. We’ll see what demands are placed on his time over the next six months or so. However, we’ll still be advertising our services and remain available through our normal channels to offer help, advice, and support to our clients. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, or an active individual seeking relief from aches and pains, or encouragement in the gym, you can still reach us and find us at Dynamix Gym. Keep an eye out for Tyler’s new social channels as he advertises his PT services through the ‘new’ gym. We are super proud of him and wish him luck in this new endeavour.

Well, that’s it for now—another short one. What do you think of my content? Interesting? Let me know in the comments; you know you want to!
