Awareness of results mini-course

Awareness of results mini-course

Aug 31, 2023

Lesson 1 - Noticing progress.

There’s a lot that goes into creating and optimizing a course. So, I’d like to share with you one of the most powerful strategies that you can start using right away to maximize client results.

That’s to bring awareness to results throughout the course.

This is one of my signature strategies that helps:

  • Clients see their progress in the course.

  • Create a clear connection between your teaching, coaching, guidance, and the results people get.

  • Generate more testimonials and referrals, most often people express how their expectations were exceeded.

  • Clients take action much more easily.

  • They tune in when they start going through the lessons and complete them. They see how much more valuable the course is and you do too. This means that it becomes even easier and more fun to talk about your course.

 .

Awareness of results is quite a straightforward thing. You look at the results people get by doing the work in your course and you simply help them see those results by mentioning them in the course content.

You can use this strategy to:

  • Empower clients.

  • Spark curiosity so they go from lesson to lesson.

  • Generate desire so they pay attention and watch the lessons in your course.

  • Motivate, inspire, and encourage them to take action, without pushing them or having them feel guilty.

I will teach you how to use awareness of results when it comes to action steps so that you understand the process and start putting it into practice right away.

Then, you can easily transfer the principles to other parts of the course. In the final lesson, I will show you how to do the same with one other really important part of the course.

 .

Mystery opportunity:

As you implement, I want you to focus on what you notice. Zoom in on the action steps and use this course to get in your clients‘ shoes.

  • Do you feel like you’re moving forward?

  • Does it feel like it’s worth implementing the action steps?

.

This helps you:

  • Experience things from the client's perspective.

  • Bring your awareness to how you do things, which, in turn, helps with your delivery.

.

The simplified version of this strategy is this:

1. The idea is to take an action step or task that people are expected to implement.

2. Look at the results that someone can expect after completing that task. These are the expected results.

3. Look at the benefits that someone can experience as the task is in progress. = These are the unexpected results that help with increasing the value of the course and helps clients notice their progress.

4. Add these results in the course content itself when talking about the action step to motivate. This creates a connection between the results and your course.

5. Become aware of other places in the course content where this strategy of bringing awareness to results can be used.

.

Your turn:

Let’s pick this one action step that you’ll be working with to learn the strategy while getting things done in your own course:

  • What do you want your clients to do?

  • What’s one thing you want your clients to take action on in your course?

.

For instance, one action step that I have determined to be essential is speaking the course content out loud. This is the one I’m going to use to showcase the strategy.

  • What is the one you choose?

  • Write it down and get ready to accelerate results and increase the value of your course.

.

In the next lesson, we’re focusing on bringing awareness to the expected results which has the potential of shortening the gap between action and results for your clients.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Lesson 2 - Expected results.

Now that you see the possibilities that open up when you choose to zoom in and be intentional about what you’re teaching and the knowledge you’re sharing, let’s look at those expected results.

There is no exceeding expectations if we don’t meet them first.

When you meet expectations, people know they can trust you. They stay in your world and know they can rely on you and your courses. They refer the courses wholeheartedly because they don’t feel like they’ve been let down or led on.

.

How do you make sure you deliver on the promise?

My way of doing this is by looking at what it is that I have successfully achieved and promise to teach the process that helped me get those results. Usually, I do things, then bring awareness to how I do them, extract the essential pieces that people need to know and do. And this is how most of my courses are born.

I really like to speak about the things I have seen and experienced. Found that when I do this, my courses also get infused with me and my journey making them like no other course out there.

This is one way of creating results-driven courses.

.

The other way is if you have the knowledge and an idea of what you’d like to help people achieve. What you need here is to be able to see the path that leads to the expected results.

This is what I do with and for my clients. Obviously, I can’t experience every single strategy and course I help bring to life, but I can visualize the journey based on what my clients share with me.

Mapping out a course helps you clearly see how everything is connected and how your course easily leads to the promised results. I talk more about this in my signature course, The Mysterious Course Island, where I teach you how to structure a results-driven mini-course from start to finish.

.

Here’s a simplified version of this:

  • You want people to be able to get a specific result.

  • In order to get that result, they need to do something. This is the action step.

  • They get something after they implement the action step. This is the expected result that is connected to the overall promise of the course.

.

Example:

I had taken a break from working on this course and wanted to get that initial spark back, to get the momentum going again and resume working on the course. I had a deadline to meet and did not want to end up taking forever to create the course.

So, I decided to read the content I already had out loud. This is something I do even if I have zero content on a topic. I imagine myself speaking on stages about this topic to feel that passion running through me and get to work.

Realized that this was essential for me throughout the course creation process. Especially for when we put things aside and feel like we’re procrastinating.

Now I have the action step:

Read the course content out loud to get back on track after having taken a break from working on the course. To make it more fun, imagine you’re delivering the content in front of an audience of raving fans who love learning from you. To bring that initial passion that pushed you to start working on the course.

This is the result you can expect. This is the main purpose of the action step. Once you implement, you will get back on track and will have gained your momentum back.

Of course, there are other results related to this. What happens after you’ve gained your momentum back? Well, you finally get the course done in days rather than months or years. Cool. This is also an expected result because I can mention it in the course description before people join.

.

Your turn:

Look at the action step you chose in the previous lesson. The one you wrote down and want people to implement in your course.

  • What are at least 2 results people can expect to get once they have implemented this successfully?

This also solidifies the knowing that people will get results if they take action. And you can relax.

.

Just like with any cool experience, there are hidden gems along the way that contribute to exceeding expectations. Let’s explore those next.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Lesson 3 - Unexpected benefits.

Feels really good to know that once someone implements the chosen action step, they get the results they’re looking for, right? This is huge!!! You now have evidence that reinforces the knowing that what you teach makes a difference.

What if it makes a bigger difference than you ever thought possible?

This strategy of awareness of results helps ease that feeling of being behind. So many people say they’re behind when they’re taking courses. Not if you bring their awareness to what to expect. Is it that they’re behind or do they just have the sense that they are simply because they’re expecting their results to look a different way?

For some, it might take longer to get the results they’re looking for. Bringing their awareness to the fact that they are getting results even before they’re done with a task changes everything.

Every action step comes with benefits when you implement it. Even before you are finished with the task. People usually mistake these benefits for the knowledge itself, the core of a lesson. But they're what motivate people to open up enough to give that action step a try.

.

So, how do you do this? How do you determine what the benefits are as the task is being implemented?

Remember how I mentioned I was a big fan of experiencing things first? This is key here.

You uncover benefits by observing the process, by observing what happens as that action step is being implemented. What does it feel like? This allows you to speak their language and deliver from a place of ‘yes, I am the expert, but I also completely understand what you’re experiencing’.

Observe the sensations, thoughts, ideas, changes. Infuse the course with your unique experiences. As opposed to benefits and info that you read about in other places.

  • When you implement this action step, you get closer to your clients, you understand them better which helps you create amplified content and uncover any missing pieces that are crucial to the journey. Like identifying steps that are essential to the overall transformation that you might have skipped over.

The hidden benefit here is that you don’t have to overthink or try hard to come up with results or benefits; you experience them.

These benefits make the activity more appealing. It makes sense to give it a try. Not only that but your client can easily notice these results. So, when it comes time to share their wins, they know what to say because they’re aware of their results. In more ways than one.

.

Example:

Let’s look at the action step I have chosen to work with. As I was reading the content out loud, I started to get really excited about the course. This was immediate. You know how people recommend just getting started, for instance with exercise, and then you keep going? That’s what it felt like.

I also noticed how easier it was to get my thoughts organized as I was speaking.

Got so many more ideas, all related to the course I was working on.

I could see which pieces needed more explaining and which ones didn’t really make sense because while I was speaking the words, I was also hearing them and it became easier to identify any mismatches, plot holes, or meh parts.

.

Your turn:

Let’s uncover the unexpected benefits for your chosen action step.

  • What's in it for them apart from the end result?

.

While the expected result was what people get after they’re done with the task, the unexpected results are what they get during.

  • Why should they look forward to performing the task?

  • What are the benefits that someone can notice while implementing the action step you have chosen?

  • Write down at least 4.

.

When you take the time to uncover these benefits, you strengthen the action step so you feel certain it’s worth implementing. It also helps you determine whether the action step is too much for a one time thing and maybe it would be easier if you broke it down further.

.

This also helps people see themselves having taken action and gets them excited, plus it's key in noticing progress. They’re not just implementing yet another action step.

.

They’re not just working towards that expected result but they’re getting what seems like bonuses along the way.

.

For this to happen, you not only need to know the benefits but also communicate them in the course content. Let’s go over this a bit more in the next lesson.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Lesson 4 - Connecting the course to the results.

Look at that clarity! Isn’t it easier to see how valuable your work is when you clearly know how your course connects to the results? And how your clients get so much more out of it?

What’s left is to communicate your findings with your clients in the course content itself.

One big reason why people don’t come back for more or stop doing the work or don’t see the value in your course is that they’re not aware of results. This makes them feel like they could have gotten the results they have even without your course. Let’s shift that. Let’s create a strong connection between your course and their results.

.

When you highlight those results in your delivery, your clients feel like they’re moving forward. They’re inspired and motivated. They know why they’re doing things. It all makes sense. They don’t question the reasons behind doing the work. They’re more excited to implement. And curious to experience those results themselves.

It might be obvious to you how what people do leads to the results they are experiencing and it might be obvious to you that they are getting results, but it’s not the same for them. While you know what you’re looking for, they don’t. So, they have fewer chances of finding those results.

So, when you’re preparing the course content, whenever you give your clients something to do, highlight the benefits to look out for. Bring their awareness to those results and benefits that someone is not focusing on, hence not seeing.

.

The best way to start when putting this strategy into practice is to use a straightforward approach.

Here are 2 prompts to help you with this:

  • When you implement this action step, you will notice this... which naturally helps you progress toward the transformation you desire because...

  • Not only do you get these expected results, but when you do this, when you actually sit down to implement, you will notice...

.

And you explain how things are connected.

Do this just like you would give someone directions. Ok, so this is the task. When you start implementing, this is what you will notice... and this is how you get to your destination. It’s as simple as that.

.

Example:

Going back to the example of the read the course content out loud.

We have 2 expected results:

  • Get momentum back and move forward with the course.

  • Saving you months of work on the course.

.

And 4 benefits that come as you’re implementing this action step:

  • Immediate excitement.

  • Organized thoughts.

  • More connected ideas.

  • Easier to identify what works and what doesn’t.

.

This is how I would communicate these benefits and results:

When you start reading the content out loud, you will immediately notice a sense of excitement. As you keep going, words will simply flow and you will observe how your thoughts organize themselves bringing you more connected ideas to use in your course content. Which speeds things up. And you’ll also notice how much easier it is to identify what works and what doesn’t saving you time on endless editing.

That is it.

When you share what you notice, creating a course becomes easier and more satisfying and people see themselves having taken action, just because you describe things so accurately. This is the beauty of becoming more and more aware of what we do and why and how. It’s truly a wonderful way to create courses and transform lives beyond what we even thought possible.

You’re ready to do the same.

.

Your turn:

By now, you should have a clear action step you’ve been working with throughout the course. At least 2 results people can expect after implementing the action step. And at least 4 extra benefits that people can notice while implementing the action step.

.

  • Write how you’d communicate these benefits when you’re telling someone to implement the action step you’ve chosen.

  • And connect the benefits to the expected results.

.

As you see, we’re just bringing what you intuitively know to the surface using the power of awareness. And we’re simply transferring this knowing you have to the client. So that they also see the connection between the work and the results.

.

That’s it! You’re ready to bring this extra value into your courses.

The action steps are just one of the places where you can bring awareness to results. In the next and final lesson, I’ll show you where else you could do the same.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Lesson 5 - Another place in your course to use awareness of results.

You now know how to elevate the action steps in your course by using the benefits that come while implementing and the results people can expect after they’ve successfully implemented the action step.

Solid in your delivery and the connection between the results people get and your course. You know that when people choose to implement, they get results.

You understand how much more valuable your teachings are and you have a simple strategy that not only highlights the results people get, but one that helps you determine what is essential in the journey and what is not, leading to accelerated client results.

.

Another cool place to use awareness of results is at the start of the lesson to generate desire and spark curiosity.

  • Why is this piece that you’re about to cover essential?

  • Why should they care?

.

Example:

You could easily use the expected results you’ve uncovered throughout this course.

Let’s say I am doing a lesson on how to gain momentum back when you’ve been procrastinating on your course for a while. I would simply highlight the reasons behind knowing what to do in a situation like this.

You have this dream of creating a course and ideas come in faster than you can write them down or record them and yet, that course stands there unfinished. What we’re about to cover in this lesson will help you save months and years of work on your course. Because you’ll have a simple and fun way to bring momentum back even if you’ve been procrastinating for a while on your course.

It’s easier to tune in and listen to what this simple and fun way is. Then, I will use the benefits uncovered when I talk about the action step.

That’s it for now.

  • You can apply this piece to your next coaching session or existing or upcoming course. Both in the beginning, by highlighting the reasons why what you’re covering matters to the overall transformation. And when you tell them what to implement. The results they can expect once they’re done with the task and the benefits they get along the way, until they’re done with the task.

  • Notice how you feel. Notice how your clients feel. And how the entire dynamic changes. How things begin to pick up. Just like that momentum when you bring the excitement for your course back.

Limitless results and opportunities with this strategy. There is always more to uncover, which means that you can always expand on existing courses. You can develop new trainings based on existing ones, you can update existing courses with new pieces of awareness, or create bonus courses to go with the ones you already have.

.

Your turn:

As a final action step for you here so that this becomes a complete journey:

  • What did you notice along the way as you were implementing?

.

In the first lesson I asked you to notice your thoughts, feelings, behavior when it comes to doing the tasks in this course to put yourself in your clients‘ shoes.

.

  • What did you notice?

  • Write at least 5 of these insights down and know that you can use them in your content to share with your existing and future clients that you do the work and understand how important it is to make the course easier to navigate and implement for them.

.

This becomes a unique selling point if you also back things up with a clear, practical, effective course.

.

This has been an amazing journey of awareness for me as well. Thank you for taking part in this insightful and eye-opening journey! Thank you for caring about the work you do and the impact you’re here to make!

Let’s change the world, one course and idea at a time!
