R.E.S.C.U.E. & Its Toll

R.E.S.C.U.E. & Its Toll

To create a story is an ordeal,

It’s full of characters, plot, & theme,

Drawing from experience makes it treacherous,

And often drains one’s energy.

A story comes from imagination,

And sometimes from real life,

We never understand the toll,

Of a story drawn from strife.

R.E.S.C.U.E. was my weakness,

Every experience went into it,

I’ve never struggled so hard,

As when I wrote until I couldn’t.

Science, emotion, and dystopia,

A trifecta of trauma at its best,

The trilogy has everything you’d want,

Even tales of realism I confess.

From death to betrayal,

Murder to unforeseen evil,

A character struggles to deal,

With traumatic events we’ve all had to feel.

I cried so many times that it seems pathetic,

Every read through was an absolute nightmare,

Stories often zap us in an emotional way,

It’s traumatic and feels unfair.

My heart clenched during the third book,

Every time I reached it I felt afraid,

My soul tightened and I hesitated,

Having no readers makes me feel betrayed.

Heart, soul, & blood,

I put everything into it,

I still feel it to this day,

The toll just gives me a fit.
