Listening To The Rain

Listening To The Rain

Light tapping hits gently against my windows,

I’m startled and clutching a cup of coffee,

It’s thundering and raining outside,

I can hear it ever so softly.

Flowers in the backyard absorb it all,

The grass already looks greener than before,

A watering can sits empty on the porch,

I don’t even use it anymore.

In a sweater and sweatpants I listen,

To the soft sounds of the rain,

Comforting me with its ambiance,

Soothing my soul all day.

The sun now hides behind clouds,

Still I see the roses bloomed bright,

Lavender dazzles and daffodils smile,

Attracting the tiniest of sprites.

Sweet droplets spill onto statues,

In the gardens outside all around me,

Of the house where I listen to the rain,

And it’s walls are all covered in ivy.

In a sweater and sweatpants I listen,

To the soft sounds of the rain,

Comforting me with its ambiance,

Soothing my soul all day.
