Keeping our medics and patients safe

Keeping our medics and patients safe

Oct 21, 2024

With one of our ambulance crews working full time around the clock in shifts to support Ukrainian medics with both stabilisation and evacuations to the hospital, and the sad reality of medical and other emergency services being increasingly targeted, we have had to start adding more protection to that ambulance in the form of blast blankets to help limit the dangers faced by fragmentation. As our ambulances carry oxygen, the dangers faced by shrapnel is not a small matter.

As the war continues, the threat from drones can also not be understated. To further protect the ambulance crew and patients, we are now looking to add a drone jammer to this ambulance as well. These systems unfortunately run into the thousands of dollars. While expensive, an ambulance can always be fixed or replaced. The same cannot be said for staff and patients, who's wellbeing is our No.1 priority above all else.

The same goes for winter tires, and we shall be purchasing a new complete set of studded tires before the snow and ice sets in. Working in Ukraine is always a challenge, whether it is the evolving threat situation and the effects of the seasons.

We are honoured to have such a great team of volunteers who give their time to support Ukraine, from the board level, in medical and mine clearance/training capacities, and those who help us with translation and support with the constant background admin. All of this is done without any payment.

What we would like to ask is for your continued support to help keep both those we support and our volunteers safe so that we can continue to keep supporting Ukraine it its time of need.

Together, Ukraine will Prevail.

Thank you.
