Summary: The importance of proxies and how to increase anonymity using multiple decentralized networks

What is a proxy?

Proxies act as "middlemen" between you and your destination. These protect you from having to share your home ip address, possible locations.

You will likely hear (others) state: "one must add [insert VPN co here] to Tor." Adding a VPN to Tor is not recommended or needed for the average person. Adding additional connections will for sure slow down websites, and when implemented wrong, can potentially even harm privacy (not all cases).

(Note: for clarity I'm not making recommendations for or against VPN usage here. This is up to the individual and their own personal situation. I'm stating that for most situations this is not necessary to add to Tor usage).

TIP: Many large websites such as the New York Times (even Facebook), provide official .onion Hidden Services.

Using Tor Hidden Services (.onions when available) is one of the best moves you can make to enhance security and privacy.

In the video we use proxychains to 'chain' together a custom order of middle-man connections. This allows us a a more compartmentalized, decentralized approach, multiple proxy "wall" of connections, further protecting our identity on the internet:
