A recording studio within a music room can be a powerful tool for student learning and fostering creativity. Not only do students find the recording studio fun to use, it also provides opportunities for listening and editing of recordings in a distraction-free environment. Along the way, students learn technical skills in recording, microphone placement, and the use of DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations).

Use this checklist as a starting place for your classroom recording studio.

Suggestions for Use:

  • Capture performances of playing tests or other assessments, providing a valuable record for students and teachers.

  • Utilize multiple recording booths (dividers or copy paper boxes) for independent or small group work, allowing for recordings such as classwork or an exit ticket.

  • Pre-record introductions, titles of performance pieces, and other announcements for seamless integration into concert programs, creating a more polished and professional presentation.
