Where to Go In Peak District National Park:
Alport Castles are landslip features in Derbyshire's Peak District National Park. With a length of over half a mile, it is the largest landslide in the United Kingdom. There are several gritstone mounds which tower over the valley as a result of the landslide and resemble castles from a distance. The largest of these, the "Tower", appears to be a full-scale motte and bailey castle when viewed from a distance.
As part of the National Trust's High Peak Estate, the Alport Castles are located in the River Alport valley on the eastern side of the river. Their location is north of Snake Pass and north of Ladybower Reservoir.
