Rocky is an east coast native who currently finds herself in the high altitudes of Colorado to support her son's college aspirations. We met in college too since I help run the softball alumni group for my Alma Mater. Our friendship started off with a "rocky" introductory phase when she confronted me with a line of questioning that began with, "Wait, you were a player? When did you play? How come I don't remember you? I thought you were the manager because you're always doing computer stuff for the coach and you look like you're here to fix things." Ouch. It's not my fault I come across as someone from IT Department instead of a fierce college athlete! I've been told I have zero RBF (Resting Bitch Face) game. Well, it turned out that I did my service during her pregnant years so she wasn't out at the fields as much was why she didn't have any recollections of my playing days. Anyway, Rocky is one of the many elder stateswomen of our program who have welcomed me into their generational fold, probably because I am an Old Soul...or I am so sociable that they think I enjoy discussions about AARP and the current state of various pension programs.
One day, Rocky found herself with the very common but vague and insufferable ailment of a tweaked back. Despite struggling to walk, she had to visit her mother and I lived nearby at the time so I offered to help. Since we had access to my massage table, which is super useful for back work, I went with a full body session.
I started the session from her head and slowly worked my way down to her feet. As I was working on her right shoulder, Rocky said, "Hey, I feel it going into my hamstring. Is that normal? This is so weird!" I mean, neither of us fall under the description of "normal" so I don't know who expected normal to play out when our energies cross. However, I am just acting as the power cord. I tap into the universal reserve (the mains) and send it to the client. If I keep my will out of the equation and let the energy flow through to do its thing, then it will automatically go where the healing is needed in the body.
Our bodies know how to heal itself. We don't have to tell a papercut to stop the bleeding or grow new skin. It knows how to do that automatically. The energy is intelligent and knows more than you and I as to what's going on. Hence, the wonderful part of doing energy work is that I don't really need to know any of the medical terms people throw at me that the doctors told them that they are suffering from. Surprise! Your cells don't know what those terms are either and will still regenerate themselves!
When the session was over, Rocky hopped off the massage table to walk around. After pacing back and forth a few times, she declared, "Hey, it doesn't hurt anymore! Wow, I don't feel a thing. I think it's gone!" She continued to twist, bend, and turn to test it out. Finally, she asked, "I think I can go to the gym tonight! Do you think I should go to the gym?"
"Errr...," I stammered. "I don't know?" I'm not a medical doctor. I'm not here to give medical advice. I can observe that Rocky started out somewhat hunched over and clutching her back, but is now standing upright and walking about without issues. That's not enough empirical data to make me the voice of reason to determine if someone should start running though. Also, don't ever look to me to advocate running because it's against my DNA.
And so, the moral of the story is if you have a back problem, sometimes to fix it means I zap your shoulder to heal your hamstring and you'll feel like new, exactly how a doctor would have drawn up the game plan.
