Translating Alexander Khatisian's Memoir

Mar 16, 2024

Following the successful translation of #Tehilirian’s memoir - “Remembrances. The Assassination of Talaat Pasha”, I am now translating "The Origin and Development of the Republic of Armenia" (Hayastani Hanrapetutyan Tsagumn ou Zargatsumuh / Հայաստանի Հանրապետութեան Ծագումն ու Զարգացումը) the memoir of Alexander Khatisian, the first-ever Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and second Prime Minister.
imageKhatisian's memoir, initially serialized in the "Hairenik Monthly" periodical of Boston, serves as a primary source offering a unique perspective on a pivotal era in Armenian history. It provides an invaluable account of the geopolitical landscape of 1917 - 1923.

Compiled into a book in Athens, Greece, by "Nor Or" in 1930, & later republished in 1968 by "Hamazkain" in Beirut, on the 50th anniversary of the Armenian Republic's establishment, #Khatisian's narrative remains a cornerstone of Armenian historiography and source material.

To make Khatisian’s memoirs as complete as possible, I'm seeking support to cover expenses associated with research & exploration of archival materials in the ARF archives in Boston and Beirut, the Armenian National Archives in Yerevan, and the Georgian archives in Tbilisi.

The translation of Alexander Khatisian's memoir promises to significantly enhance our understanding of that critical period of 1917 - 1923 in #Armenian history for a diverse audience.
