☀️ North Africa wasn't kind to camouflage!

Jul 17, 2026

G'Day Modelbuilders! One of the effects I wanted to capture on this Hurricane wasn't heavy weathering—it was months of relentless desert sunshine.

To do this, I simply mixed a little white into the original camouflage colours and worked that lighter mix onto the upper surfaces where the sun would have had the greatest effect. While the paint was still workable, I gently rubbed it into the surface with my fingertip to soften the transitions and create a faded, sun-bleached appearance.

The effect is deliberately subtle. If you notice it immediately, I've probably overdone it!

I've just shared a short video showing exactly how I achieved the finish on this Hurricane. I hope you find the technique useful on your own desert aircraft.

I'll Show you how it's done!

... and let me know how you go.
