Apr 09, 2021

๐—›๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ was born on April 9th, 1848 and was a teacher and womenโ€™s rights activist. Her focus lay on the education of girls and women and she was crucial in the establishing of the ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น- and later ๐—š๐˜†๐—บ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ธ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฒ for girls (roughly equivalent to middle and high school degrees). Lange worked as a teacher and also co-founded the (ADLV - General German Women Teacher Association) and the General German Womenโ€™s Association (๐—”๐—น๐—น๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐——๐—ฒ๐˜‚๐˜๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ป). The magazine โ€œ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฒ ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜‚โ€ (The woman) was published by her starting in 1893, and she and her partner Gertrud Bรคumer wrote the standard work โ€œ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐—›๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜‚๐˜๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ด๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ดโ€ (The manual of the German Womenโ€™s Movement), published 1901-1906.

Once women were allowed in political parties (1908) she - alongside many other womenโ€™s rights activists - joined the ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐—ฉ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ป which became the ๐—™๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฉ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ธ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ถ (Progressive People Party). After WWI, she co-founded the (German Democratic Party), and in 1920 she moved with her partner to Berlin where Bรคumer was to be undersecretary in the department of interior. Lange was already 70 at the time and sick which is why she avoided public engagements and focused on guiding the younger women within the movement. She died in 1930 with Bรคumer by her side.
