After studying in the Johns Hopkins University Writing Seminars, publishing short fiction in literary magazines, and serving as a freelance journalist for national publications, I built a successful strategic marketing consultancy.
To keep me writing despite the demands of building and managing a business, I started a personal blog in 2012. Observing Leslie today attracts thousands of visitors per month.
I've chosen to keep Observing Leslie as objective as possible and to maintain content control by not accepting advertising of any kind, including affiliate income, sponsored posts, or freebies in exchange for write-ups. However, running and maintaining a website has associated costs, so I'm ever appreciative when someone who values what they've found chips in to help me fund the costs of the site's hosting and upkeep.
Further, though I have finally had the opportunity to return my focus to my true passion, writing fiction, a few dollars from people who appreciate my work give me a lot of motivation to keep going—in addition to helping cover some of the costs of a professional activity that, as will come as no surprise to anyone, doesn't quite cover the costs of living. You can learn about my fiction writing on my author site.

I found compelling, inspiring, enlightening information on your blog: about writing, reading, and just as urgent to me, mindful ideas about living the best life I can - as a writer and a human being. How could I not join?!
Caroline!! I am just seeing this and honestly, I wish I could give you the biggest hug. This is such an unexpected kindness and, truly, so far from expected and so very much what I needed right now. Funny how the universe works: Just when I was wondering whether any of this mattered, I saw your kind note and your kind gift. I'm so, so honored.

Isn't it wonderful how the universe works. I feel the same about what you have added to my life and efforts with your genius! And your attitude which is kind, giving, and yet always rational and wise. Your insight about writing has done so much for me. Again, I thank you Leslie for your blog and your help. I haven't found anything like it in long years of reading. It's eclectic but full of deep thought, which is something I am trying to learn how to do. Thinking deeply is really hard! :)

Your list of books at B1 and B2 level has been really useful as I prepare my DELF B2 for June 2025! So many people recommend Le Petit Prince and Harry Potter, it’s hard to get beyond those. I tried a few samples from your list on kindle, found some I liked, and now I’m flying! Thanks again Leslie!
😃 The knowledge alone that I helped someone (and a fellow reader, too!) means the world to me. Thank you so much for letting me know and I am so, so touched that you helped me afford my book habit. (A true fellow reader, indeed!) More French books to come, therefore... because I'm even more energized to keep the French-novel reading list updated now, thanks to you!
