"Where Are You Really From?" is a podcast that delves into the experiences of individuals who are often asked this seemingly simple but loaded question. As the host, I aim to explore how this question impacts their identity, sense of belonging, and personal narratives. The podcast sheds light on stories that go beyond the surface, offering a platform for voices that challenge stereotypes and address the complexities of identity in multicultural societies.
This project is deeply personal to me. Growing up in Germany as the child of Turkish and Kurdish parents, I have often faced this question myself. It’s not just a question about origin; it’s about belonging, othering, and the silent barriers people like me often navigate. The podcast seeks to normalize these stories and create a space where identity is celebrated, not questioned.
Why I Do It:
This podcast is my way of contributing to a world where diversity is not only acknowledged but valued. By sharing these stories, I hope to spark conversations about racism, prejudice, and the invisible layers of identity many of us carry. It’s a journey to inspire empathy and understanding, one story at a time.
Self-Financed and Independent:
"Where Are You Really From?" is an independent project that I fund entirely on my own. I handle everything—from concept to recording, editing, and promotion—without sponsorships or external funding. This allows me to maintain complete creative freedom and focus on the authenticity of my guests' stories.
If you believe in the mission of this podcast and would like to support its growth, your help would mean the world to me. Whether through spreading the word, providing feedback, or a small contribution to help cover production costs, every bit of support is deeply appreciated.
Let’s keep these important conversations going. Thank you for being part of this journey!
